Patrick Davis has been our Staples Connection since 2012. He came aboard that year when we decided to use Staples Copy & Print for our 5K Run & Walk T-Shirts and other print needs. Patrick, not content to simply work out the details of the merchandise we would need volunteered on the Walk Committee that year and took on coordinating the food. He attended monthly then weekly meetings as we prepared for the big day and was on hand at 6 AM the day of the event to help set up and stayed until we were all packed up 12 hours later. He has volunteered every year since then. This is so rare to have a person with no personal connection to autism give this much of themselves to the cause.
In 2014 Patrick nominated us for a grant from the Staples Foundation. That summer we were able to fund older kids who had been Havvago campers for The Camp Starfish L.E.A.D.E.R.S program with the $5,000 grant we received from Staples. This past year he again submitted our Center for a grant and we were again given a $5,000 grant which allowed us to continue to offer older kids an amazing experience that prepares them for and may lead to employment in the future.
Mid November Pat informed us that he had been promoted, and would no longer be our account manager, but assured us that he would still be volunteering at our 5K run & walk. Then informed us that he was nominated as a Staples Community Hero for his work with the Center, he was one of 5 nominees and if he won in a online vote done through texts, we as his non-profit partner potentially could be awarded $5,000. We were so excited and shared via social media the campaign with all of you.
YOU DID IT!!!!!
With autism now occurring 1 in 45 births, the results of the voting show that there is power in numbers as Pat won. He is now a Staples 2 Million & Change Community Hero. Thanks to all who took time to text in this vote and making this happen!
Pat is simply one of the nicest human beings we have ever met, we didn’t doubt for a moment that he would win, he is so deserving of this honor. Please join us in congratulating Pat and thanking him for his years of devotion and for going well beyond the scope of his job in supporting our community.
The announcement was made on Giving Tuesday, which made our day even better!
