With schools being closed and distance learning implemented, it’s a safe bet that your iPads are seeing more use at home. Here are some tips for parents and caregivers to help guide students’ safe and productive use of iPads.
One feature built into the iPad’s operating system is called Guided Access. Guided Access lets you lock the iPad in one app, preventing the user from getting out of the targeted app and accessing other features such as youtube, games, etc. Guided Access also allows parents and caregivers to set a time limit on how long the student is allowed to use a the iPad. If a time limit is set, the iPad will lock once the limit has been reached. The password is required to unlock it. You can find more information at Apple’s support page on Guided Access.
Here is a video demonstrating how to activate Guided Access. While the video features an iPhone, the process is very similar on an iPad Another feature available is called Parental Controls. This feature allows parents and caregivers to set content restrictions on websites, music, and other media. It also lets adults prevent children from in-app purchases or purchases in the app store. For more information, visit Apple’s support page on Parental Controls.
